What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the aware, balanced acceptance of the present experience.
It isn’t more complicated that that.
It is opening to or receiving the present moment,
pleasant or unpleasant,
just as it is,
without either clinging to it or rejecting it.

Sylvia Boorstein is one of the founding teachers of Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Northern California (where she has taught meditation for fifteen years).  Her books are many.  My favorite title…“Happiness is an Inside Job: Practicing for a Joyful Life.”

Oh, this is so appropriate for me right now—I’ve just started reading some work by Jon Kabat-Zinn on mindfulness and am really trying to get it this time. Also, I live in northern California, so I’ll have to check this out! Thanks!
